It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jim Patterson, 83, on December 20th, 2024. A beloved father, grandfather, and cherished friend, Jim was known for his steadfast dedication to his family, his career in law enforcement, and his passions that filled his life with purpose. Born on September 7th, 1941, Jim led a life marked by service, adventure, and a love for nature. For more than 25 years, he served in law enforcement, where he was deeply respected for his role in underwater recovery efforts, helping to bring closure to countless families. His commitment to protecting his community left an indelible mark on those he worked with, those he helped…and played an active role in many, many shenanigans, keeping light in a challenging career. As a grandfather, Jim was a source of wisdom, humor, and unwavering support. He was deeply loved by his wife of 50 years, Karen (Wright) Patterson, children Jimmy, Steve (Connie), Jeff (Sue) Patterson, Lori (Marty) Peck, Kerry (Miller) Wilson, 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, brother Pat (Edie) Patterson, sister Erlyne (Boyd) Wilson, and extended family, always offering guidance, kindness, and a steady presence. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Florence Patterson and son James, Jr. His family was his greatest pride, and his love for them was boundless. Beyond his professional life, Jim had a profound love for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, spending countless hours in nature, always in awe of the wildlife around him. Whether it was tracking deer, hunting elk, dipping smelt from a stream, or simply watching the seasons change, Jim found joy and solace in the world around him. Jim will be remembered for his integrity, his adventurous spirit, and his enduring love for the people and activities that brought him joy. His passing leaves a hole in the hearts of all who knew him, but his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held Saturday, December 28th at the Kalkaska Church of Christ. Visitation will be at 10am, service at 11am with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Heartland Hospice of Traverse City in Jim’s memory as an opportunity to bless more families with their love and support. Rest in peace, Jim. You will be deeply missed but forever remembered. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
