Nancy Leona Huffman

Nancy Leona (Leatherman) Huffman, 82, of Fife Lake, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on August 1st, 2024. She was born to Kenneth and Martha (Barnes) Leatherman on February 8th, 1942, in Battle Creek, MI. Growing up, Nancy’s best friend was her mother, often enjoying their time together working on ceramics projects. Nancy and her sister Diane though, were inseparable growing up, always sticking together. After graduating High School, Nancy spent some time attending Davenport College in Battle Creek, MI. Shortly after, she married the love of her life, and life partner Dale C. Huffman Jr. at the Congregational Church in Battle Creek, MI, on August 18th, 1962. They enjoyed just about 62 loving years together, raising three daughters along the way. Nancy and Dale raised the kids and worked in the Battle Creek area. She would finally retire from the Kellogg’s company, putting in over 25 years of service. In 2019, Nancy and Dale left Battle Creek and moved into their house up north. Nancy loved the move, she enjoyed the quiet peaceful environment that surrounded her, and being able to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. She was very talented at knitting, crocheting, making beaded jewelry, and singing. She had a beautiful voice, often singing for friends and family at weddings and other events when asked. It was always a treat for anyone lucky enough to listen. Nancy was also a big-time reader, she always enjoyed a good book, although when reading on her Kindle, she didn’t mind playing a game or two. Most importantly though, family meant everything to Nancy. She was a great woman, Dale loved spending time with Nancy, and she loved her time spent with him. She was a phenomenal mother to her daughters, always supporting her girls when they needed her. Later in life, she was blessed with being a grandmother, and later, a great-grandmother. She adored all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always leaping at the opportunity to spend time with them. After battling the complications of Alzheimer’s, and dementia, Nancy is now at peace and at rest. Nancy will be missed by all and remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Nancy will be lovingly remembered by her husband Dale C. Huffman Jr.; daughters Sherri (Kenneth) Pifer, Terri (Timothy) Robinson, and Melissa (Eric) Davidson; sisters Diane VanLoo, and Cindy Botsford; brother John (Delia) Leatherman; grandchildren Kayleigh Robinson, Michael Robinson, Nicholas Brown, Nancy Pifer, Daniel Pifer, Joe Pifer, Kenneth Pifer Jr., and Joseph Davidson; great-grandchildren Claire Oerther, Meri-Jaine Oerther, Noah Burgess, Reign Burgess, Taylor Gull, Kimberly Pifer, Sophia Pifer, Gracie Pifer, Alexis Pifer, Brooklynn Wyatt, Justin Wyatt, Addicus Davidson, and Raleigh Davidson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law Dale C. Huffman Sr.; mother-in-law Louise Blanch (Peck) Huffman; brother-in-law Roy VanLoo; and Grandmother Bertha Barnes. In honor of Nancy’s life, a Celebration of Life is being planned. The Celebration of Life will be held in the Battle Creek area, with a date, time, and location being announced in the future. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
