Michael James Scoby Sr.

Michael James Scoby Sr. January 10, 1971 - April 5, 2025 Michael (Mike) passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus shortly after midnight Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Munson Hospice House. Mike fought a short but brave battle with cancer until the very end. Mike was born on January 10, 1971, in Wayne County to Charles Michael Scoby and Linda Marie (Brunnell) Scoby. Mike met the love of his life and best friend Carrie Thrasher in 2003 and were united in marriage on February 25, 2006. They just recently celebrated 19 years of marriage. Four children survive Mike. Andrea (Umar) Scoby of East Lansing, Michigan. James (Storm) Scoby and Mackenzie Scoby of Cheboygan, Michigan. Michael Scoby Jr of Kalkaska. Mike leaves behind two beautiful grandchildren who were the light and love of his eyes, Jaxson William and Oaklynn Rose of Cheboygan, Michigan. Mike is also survived by his father Charles & Sharon Scoby of Walnut, KS, his mother Linda Haskin of Kalkaska, sister Audra (Jerry) Jacobs of Scottville, MI. Along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends. Mike was greeted in Heaven by his maternal grandparents, Robert & Charlotte Brunnell, and paternal grandparents, Jay & Audrey Scoby. As well as, stepfather Doug Haskin; mother-in-law Coral Thrasher and Angel Baby Scoby. Mike lived a full but happy life. He was a loving, kind, compassionate family man and friend to all. He loved to help people out wherever possible. He was so proud of his kids in whatever they were doing. His grandbabies came second to that. He was a proud Papa. They were his pride & joy. He may have only been Papa for a short while, but his grandchildren will have him as their guardian angel for always. He graduated from Warren Woods Tower High School in 1991. He then went on to enlist in the Army in 1994, where he learned to be a heavy equipment mechanic. Shortly after 9/11 he reenlisted in the Army National Guard. He was proud to serve his country. Altogether he served almost 15yrs. Two of his favorite jobs were working at the MATES Facility on the Camp Grayling post, and at Advanced Auto Parts. Mike’s favorite pastime was watching the Detroit Lions. GO LIONS! You could also find him watching the Detroit Red Wings or the Detroit Tigers. You might even find him watching Michigan football beat Ohio State. Mike loved to be outside. You might find him fishing or hunting, even though he would come home empty handed. You might even find him working on his own car, or helping a friend out with their car. He also enjoyed a good movie or hanging around a good bonfire. Mike was many things to many people. He has made a great imprint on our lives and he is going to be greatly missed. WE LOVE YOU!!!! A memorial service will be held at Kalkaska Church of Christ on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 12:00 pm, with a visitation prior beginning at 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
