Christopher Michael Witt, beloved son, brother, and friend, unexpectedly passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, at the age of 57. Chris was born to Charles and Carol Witt in Lincoln Park, Michigan, on May 14, 1969. In 1974, his family moved to Kalkaska, Michigan, where Twin Lake would become one of the most special places in his life. For Chris, Twin Lake was more than a place—it was a collection of some of his happiest memories. It was where he and his brothers spent their childhood days outside, roaming through the woods, swimming, fishing, and waterskiing. They were carefree years filled with adventure, laughter, and the simple joys of being kids. As the years passed, those memories remained close to Chris, and he loved talking with his brothers about the times they shared growing up on Twin Lake. Chris graduated from Kalkaska High School in 1987. He was a member of the National Honor Society and Future Problem Solvers. He was an avid bowler and downhill skier, and he enjoyed the friendships and fun that came with both. Chris loved the 80s! He loved the music, hairstyles, and fashion of the decade and was always a little ahead of his time. Chris had a progressive spirit and an unmistakable sense of style that was uniquely his. Like his mother and father, Chris was an animal lover. Throughout his life, animals held a special place in his heart. Most recently, Chris shared a deep love for his beloved dog, Zeke, who passed away, and his current dog, Marco, who brought him companionship and joy. After high school, Chris moved to the Detroit area to attend college and begin building his career. He started out in banking before eventually moving to the Grand Rapids area and making his way into information technology, where he spent many years of his professional life. Chris was exceptionally intelligent and had a natural ability to figure things out and solve problems. His curiosity and sharp mind served him well throughout his career and in so many other areas of his life. But Chris’s life was about much more than his career. He loved the finer things in life. He was passionate about cool cars, good music, art, and, most importantly, the people he chose to surround himself with. Chris had a way of keeping people and memories close. When talking with him, it was common for him to share stories about people from his youth and the longtime friends who became such an important part of his adult life. Rod, George, Garrett, Fuad, and many others were more than friends—they were Chris’s chosen family. These friendships spanned decades and were woven into the story of his life. Christopher was preceded in death by his father, Charles “Chuck” Witt, and his beloved mother, Carol Witt. Chris will be lovingly remembered by his “Big Brother,” Charles (Kristin) Witt; his brother, Craig (Abbey) Witt; nephews Stephen Witt, Alan (Nicole) Witt, Michael Witt, and Jack Kloc; nieces Megan Witt and Delaney Kloc; great-nephews Mayson Witt and Nolan Witt; and great-niece Amara Witt. He will also be deeply missed by his many extended family members and lifelong friends who were an important part of his life. Chris’s family and friends will have an opportunity to come together to remember and celebrate his life on Friday, August 21, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Kalkaska Funeral Home. Following the celebration of life, Chris will be laid to rest beside his beloved mother at Evergreen Cemetery in Kalkaska. Chris was one of a kind. His stories, his laughter, his passions, his friendships, and the memories he created with the people he loved will remain a part of his legacy. While his loss leaves an emptiness that cannot be filled, those who knew Chris will carry him with them through the memories and stories that will continue to be shared for years to come. Chris will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
