Samuel "Sam" David Long
November 13, 1938 - March 5, 2019
Samuel "Sam" David Long, 80, of Kalkaska passed away Tuesday March 5, 2019 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born on November 13, 1938 to the late Isiah and Ellen (Robinson) Long in Kalkaska. After graduating from Kalkaska High School, Sam went to work in the oil field as a laborer and eventually retired from Local 1098. Sam enjoyed hunting and fishing, and visiting with his many friends and loved ones. He was a member of the Kalkaska Moose Lodge and attended the Kalkaska Church of Christ. For those who knew Sam, his smile, his teasing and his humor will be greatly missed. Sam is survived by his siblings; John, Syd, Pete, Grace, Alice and Mary, stepsons and stepdaughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and his best pal Buddy the dog. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce Ionia Long, and sister Karen Kay. A memorial service will be held for Sam on Saturday March 16, 2019 at the Kalkaska Funeral Home at 1:00 pm, the family will begin receiving friends at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Kalkaska Commission on Aging. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
