Ronald Marvin Coville, 81, of Kalkaska, passed away Friday, Sept 21, 2018 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. Ron was born to the late Victor and Alma (Marvin) Coville on January 13, 1937 in Lansing. He was raised in Nashville, Michigan. He graduated from Nashville High School where he earned twelve varsity letters. He attended Western Michigan University on a baseball scholarship before signing to pitch for the Chicago White Socks farm team. A shoulder injury ended his baseball dream. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1964. He returned to Western Michigan on the G.I. Bill and received his B.A. and M. A. in education. Following graduation he taught Physical Education and coached football, swimming and golf at Owosso High School until his retirement in 1995. He retired to his cabin in the woods on the Manistee River where he spent his time hunting and playing golf at Grandview Golf Club. Eventually the family moved to Kalkaska. Ron married the former Marilyn Martin in Bay City, Michigan in 1964. Together they had one wonderful daughter Cheryl who lives with them in Kalkaska. In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by sisters: Rae (Steve) Hinderliter of Virginia and Marge Costas of Iowa, brother-in-law Leonard (Mickie) Martin and sisters-in-law Marjorie Martin and Pat Martin and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers-in-law. Ron has been cremated. Per his request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers anyone wishing to make a donation may direct it to Cheryl Coville or to Friends of Kalkaska Library New Building Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home.
