Patricia Ann Kniss

August 28, 1939 - April 8, 2022

Patricia Ann Kniss, 82, of Kalkaska, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022. Patricia was born in South Boardman to the late Carl and Grace (Swanson) Hogerheide on August 28, 1939. On May 3rd, 1958 she married the love of her life, Gordon Kniss. This May they would have celebrated 64 years together. Patricia will be remembered as a loving mother, friend, mentor, and second mom to many of her son’s friends. For decades she made beautiful wedding cakes for so many members of the community. She enjoyed being involved in 4-H, riding her beloved horse Fancy, and owning her own motorcycle. Patricia loved to travel and enjoyed visiting Arizona, Alaska, New Mexico, Mexico, and the Big Apple. She and her husband lived many years of their retirement in Grand Marais. She worked clerical positions for many local businesses including her dad’s trucking company and she was a business owner herself. Patricia was always very proud of her children and grandchildren. She was especially proud of her youngest son Steven who served our country in the Marine Corps. Having five rowdy boys, she often referred to herself as a “Rascal Wrangler”. Patricia is survived by her husband Gordon Kniss; sons Brent (Annette) Kniss of South Boardman, Brad (Kandace) Kniss, Blake (Kim) Kniss, Scott (Clarissa) Kniss, Steven (Annie) Kniss; daughters Lisa (Mike) Clark and Julie Clark; 24 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren with two on the way; one great-great-grandson; siblings Don Hogerheide, Steve Hogerheide, Linda Belcher and Karla Hadley; many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Grace Hogerheide of South Boardman; in-laws Gordon and Mildred Kniss; daughter Shelly Lynn; grandsons Brian and Nicholas; brother-in-law Larry Belcher; sisters-in-law Sondra Beaver, Joyce Hogerheide and Marri Hogerheide. The funeral service will take place Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Kalkaska Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to consider a donation to Kalkaska Baby Pantry or Kalkaska United Methodist Church Community Meals. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
