Odell Berton Carlisle

March 29, 1932 - May 10, 2022

Odell Berton Carlisle born March 29, 1932 Hillsdale, Michigan, died May 10, 2022 Kalkaska, Michigan. He is survived by Virginia (Royston) Carlisle of Charlotte, Michigan his wife of over 70 years, 3 children Kathleen Ann and her husband Jose Rozario Flores, Michael Odell Carlisle and his wife Barbara Jean (Dunn), Daniel Ray Carlisle, and Finnish daughter Arja (Mustonen) Voss, 8 grandchildren their spouses and 16 great-grandchildren. He was the oldest son of 6 children of Berton Carlisle & Vila Harrington (deceased), siblings: Nora Brown of Kalamazoo, MI, Clarence J. and Ellen Irene (both deceased), Julie Kiser of Florida, and William Dean (deceased at birth) and two half-siblings of Berton Carlisle and Marjorie Connelly, Marcia Woodard of Oviedo, FL and Lon Carlisle of Lansing, MI. He graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1950 and went on to attend Huntington College in Indiana where he met his future wife Virginia. They were married at the home of Virginia’s parents in Charlotte, Michigan June 16, 1951. They moved to Chicago, Illinois where he attended Northern Baptist Seminary (which is now Taylor University) where he received his Bachelor of Theology. Odell was ordained and pastored at First Baptist of Three Rivers, Michigan and Peoples Church in Kalkaska, Michigan. They moved to Kalkaska in 1958 where they built their home where they still reside. He enjoyed trips with family, camping etc., many family get-togethers and being as active as possible in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Odell was an active member of the Kalkaska community serving in Boy Scouts, Industrial Development, Athletic Boosters, Band Boosters, and a charter member of Kiwanis in Kalkaska for 30 years. He also served as a pastor for 5 years and served the community as Probate Judge for 38 years. He enjoyed helping others and many families in the community and was involved in several adoptions and marriages. Visitation will be on Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 10 am to 11 am at Kalkaska Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11 am with burial following at Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to Kiwanis Scholarship Fund, PO Box 1125, Kalkaska, MI 49646 or Kalkaska United Methodist Church, 2525 Beebe Rd NW, Kalkaska, MI 49646.
