George D. Lewis

George Darwin Lewis, 84, of Fife Lake, passed away Friday, February 18, 2022 at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Long Term Care. George was born in Ann Arbor to the late Melburn and Mildred (Hall) Lewis on May 23, 1937. He was married to his wife and the love of his life of 63 years, Sonja (Olney) Lewis. He was a lifelong resident of Kalkaska County. George was a firefighter for Kalkaska Township Fire Department and retired as a Lieutenant after 25 years. Because he enjoyed fishing so much, he practically lived on the river. George lived to serve others. He was a member of the Snow Packers Club and the Lions Club. He and his wife, Sonja enjoyed traveling to Florida during the winters. George loved being a grandpa and especially enjoyed teaching them to fish. George will be lovingly remembered by his wife; sons George II (Holly) Lewis, Greg (Bonnie) Lewis, and Todd Lewis; grandchildren Greg, Bill, Dustin, Bud, Cody and Shandi; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Carol (Herb) Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dick Lewis. A Memorial service will take place in the spring at Garfield Township Park. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
