February 18, 1924 - April 21, 2019
Dorothy J. “Dottie” Cook, 95, of Fife Lake, went to be with her Savior on April 21, 2019, at the Eden Center in Kalkaska. Dorothy was born on February 18, 1924 in St. Joseph County in southern Michigan, to parents Donald and Lillian Kramb. Dorothy attended country schools and graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1942. In 1943, she joined the US Army Air Corps and was honorably discharged in 1945 as the war ended. In 1946, she met and married Allen S. Cook in Three Rivers. Allen was the love of her life and they spent nearly 51 years together until his passing in 1997. Dorothy worked for 33 years in property records for Michigan Gas and Electric Co. She retired and moved to Fife Lake in 1984 with Allen. Dorothy was an avid crafter. She enjoyed knitting, cross stitch, crocheting, quilting and all forms of the sewing arts. She also enjoyed camping and traveling with family and friends; and playing cards. In later years, going to the Spring Creek Flea and Farm Market to challenge and old friend, Hank Parkie, to a game of cribbage; I am told she was ahead in games won. Dorothy is survived by her son Robert A. Cook of Fife Lake, “adopted son” Douglas Holder and family of Three Rivers, friends Hank Parkie and Tina McCoy of Kalkaska, Bea and Art VanEck of Fife Lake, all of her friends on Ginafred Shores Drive and at Post 219 in Fife Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband Allen S. Cook, parents Donald and Lillian Kramb, three sisters: Donna Feiser, Ethel Heshelman, and Hazel Webb, and two brothers James and Gerald Kramb. There will be a celebration of her life at the American Legion Post 219, date and time will be announced when available. Interment will be in the Three Rivers Cemetery this summer. Memorials may be made to the VFW, DAV, PVA, Post 219 or any organization that helps and aids our US Veterans. Arrangements were entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
