Betty Lou Korson Send

January 19, 1967 - April 3, 2018

Betty Lou Korson Send, age 51of Williamsburg, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on April 3, 2018. She was the daughter of Raymond and Dorothy (Popp) Korson. Betty and her womb mate were born in Traverse City on January 19, 1967. She graduated from Elk Rapids High School in 1985. Betty had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and higher education attending Northwestern Michigan College in recent years. Betty met the love of her life Stephen Send in 2006 and combined their families into one. They absolutely adored each other! Family meant everything to Betty. She took great pride in her children, celebrating the unique wonderful individuals each of them are. His, hers, ours, she loved them all the same. Betty and Steve took joy being members of the Great Lakes Antique Tractor Club. Betty was happy to drive one of the Send family’s beautiful antique John Deere tractors, especially in the Elk Rapids Harbor Days parade route. She was an avid gardener and canner who appreciated providing home-grown healthy food for her family. Betty, with Steve’s help, raised chickens, meat birds, and egg layers. She passed her CCW (carry concealed weapon) and was also excited about the 2018 turkey hunting season. Betty had a passion for travel & adventure, building lifelong memories. Betty and Steve traveled to Nashville on a special getaway together. Recounting trips to the Grand Canyon and Morocco with her sisters and niece would light up her eyes. You could always count Betty in if there was a euchre game to be played! She enjoyed attending church with her mother and sisters at St. Mary of the Woods in Kalkaska. Betty loved staying active and was dedicated to fully using her Grand Traverse Resort membership. She seldom missed a yoga class or a chance to spend time with her family in the pool and hot tub. Betty was excited about quilting and gifting loved ones with her beautiful creations. She had a love for the water and would rally the family for a beach day or evening swim. She loved the unexpected moments shared with her brothers, sisters, and special friends when they would pop in for an early morning cup of coffee or tea. Betty was always so welcoming and inclusive; never too busy to share a smile, a hug, or volunteer a helping hand. Betty worked for Progress Printers in Traverse City beginning in 1984 until owning and operating Justrite Bakery in St. Ignace in 1996. The bakery was famous for their delicious U.P. style pasties along with the usual donut delicacies. It was especially exhilarating during the annual car show when the bakery would stay open 24 hours! Betty returned to Grand Traverse County in 2005 and became an integral part of the printing department family for Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS). Betty’s dedication to meeting deadlines, working hard with a smile and can-do attitude made her a valued member of the team. After 10 years, the lure of working with students in the TCAPS technology departments Greek Squad at West Senior High School pulled her away from the printing department, but never from the friendships formed. She loved working with “her kids” and seeing them succeed as they repaired laptops, Chromebooks, and iPads. She was so proud of them! Betty brought her contagious enthusiasm and joy to everyone whose life she touched. She was such a bright light who will be missed by so many. She was a great listener and encourager, a secret keeper and confidant, and truly the best friend any of us could ever wish for. Betty will be forever missed by her loving and adoring husband Stephen Send, remarkable sons Jonathon Gray and Zachary Send, wonderful step-children: Stephanie and Isaiah Send and Norman Gray Jr., beloved mother Dorothy Korson, devoted in-laws Richard and Rose Send, treasured brothers Mark Korson, Matt (Mary) Korson, Luke (Eva) Korson, Douglas (Jenny Seipp) Send, precious sisters Raymona (Mona) Korson, Angela (David) Siegrist, Bonnie (Phil) Babcock, Deborah (Neal) Shelagowski, Victoria Emerson, cherished nieces and nephews, great nieces, numerous special aunts and uncles, dear cousins, amazing friends, outstanding co-workers, and irreplaceable neighbors who became part of the family. Preceded in death and welcomed into Heaven by her father Raymond Korson, sister-in-law Paula Korson, brother-in-law Robert (Bob) Send, and has since welcomed her brother-in-law Thomas Emerson into Heaven. There will be a funeral and celebration of Betty’s incredible life this summer. Once dates become known, details will be posted at www.kalkaskafuneralhome.com. Because of Betty’s unquenchable thirst for education, memorial contributions may be directed to the Betty Send Memorial Education Fund, c/o Kalkaska Funeral Home, PO Box 1457, Kalkaska, MI 49646. Betty’s unwavering faith in God and her acceptance of His plan has taught us to remain positive, no matter the circumstance. May the memory of her joyful presence fill your heart and encourage you to live, love, and laugh as she did, with passion and enthusiasm Arrangements were entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
