Anthony “Leo” Kuiawa, 89, of Kalkaska passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 24, 2018. He was born on October 4, 1928 to the late Frank and Anna (Zazeski) Kuiawa in Wakefield Michigan. Leo was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War from 1948-1952 and worked for General Motors for 30 years. Leo was a proud and faithful member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Council 7419 in Kalkaska for 60 years, and he was a 4th Degree Knight of Grand Traverse Assembly 499 for 59 years. In Leo’s spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and wood working. He was always there to help friends with projects and was a devout volunteer at his church. Leo will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Joan (Segalin) Kuiawa, sons; David (Debbie), Michael, grandchildren; Jason (Andrea) Kuiawa, great grandchild Alexis, sister Barbara Finco, and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Leo is preceded in death by his parents, son Thomas, brothers Casey, Basil, Gene. Visitation for Leo will be held Monday, February 26, 2018 from 4pm- 7pm at the Kalkaska Funeral Home, followed by a Wake Service at 7pm . A funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 11am at St Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Kalkaska, with final visitation beginning at 10am. A luncheon will follow at the church. Contributions can be made in Leo’s honor to the Munson Cancer Center or Munson Hospice. Arrangements entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
