Patrick "Pops" Modos

Patrick “Pops” Modos, 78, passed away peacefully in Traverse City, MI on January 17, 2024. Pops was born January 3, 1946, in Detroit, MI. He was the son of Ellen (Ward) and Joseph Modos. Pops graduated from Northville High School. After graduation, he worked as a carpenter apprentice before embarking on his 32-year career at Ford Motor Company. He spent most of his time with Ford at the Dearborn Engine & Fuel Tank Plant. He took pride in working for a family-owned company that took care of their employees. While working in Dearborn, he met the love of his life Pam and married his beautiful bride on May 10, 1997, on a gorgeous day in Dowling, MI. Pat’s infatuation for Pam never ceased for the next 26 years, he’d let anyone willing to listen know that he loved his beautiful bride. That same year Pops would retire from Ford Motor Company, however that did not stop him from coming back and working as a consultant for Ford. Shortly after retirement Pops & Pam moved up to Bear Lake Township in Kalkaska, MI. The family’s roots quickly began to grow in the community as they owned Dingman’s Bar in Bear Lake Township for 16 years and were involved in multiple roles at the Bear Lake Christian Church. At the church Pops served as a Deacon and sat as Vice President on their Board. Pops had a big personality; he loved to be the greeter for many years at the church, always wanting to be the first smile you’d see through the door. Pops was uniquely gifted with a servant’s heart; aside from his services at the Church he loved giving back to his community in general. He was passionate about leading the charge in raising money for local charities with his Church, as well as raising money at Dingman’s Bar for Wertz Warriors & Whitetails Unlimited. He also loved volunteering his time as auctioneer for the Bear Lake Township Fire Department’s Annual Chicken Barbecue, as well as teaching Hunter Safety classes up north. In his spare time Pops enjoyed taking walks in the woods accompanied by his beloved family dogs, Misty and Abbie. He also loved it when Fall came around, knowing he’d be able to spend some time at his Deer Camp. Pops was also a fan of the rise of social media. Facebook gave him a way to connect with old friends and be able to stay in touch with them; he wouldn’t mind beating them in a game of Words with Friends. And loved to “stir the pot” so to speak with his daily posts that entertained him tremendously. Pops was a man with a big personality who commanded attention whenever he walked into the room. People were always entertained by his wit and charm. He was a family man, and a man of faith, who loved spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them life lessons. Pops will be missed by all and remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Pops will be lovingly remembered by his beautiful bride Pam Modos; daughter Robyn Kemp; grandchildren Zachary, Kourtney, and Zane Kemp. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Modos; mother Ellen Modos; son Patrick Modos II (aka Broz); and brother and sister-in-law Mike (Louise) Modos. A memorial service will be held in Pops honor at Bear Lake Christian Church on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 11:00 am, the family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am until the time of service. Donations may be made to Bear Lake Christian Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home.
