Michael Roger Carter Jr.

It is with profound sadness and love that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, spouse, brother and son Michael Roger Carter Jr., who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 59 on August 12, 2026 following a brief illness. At the time of his passing, he was a resident of Fife Lake, MI, but spent much of his time over various areas of the state, including Grayling, Roscommon, Flint, and Milford, Michigan. Michael’s life started on November 17, 1966, where he was the oldest son born to Michael Roger Carter Sr. and Linda Sue Carter (Clancy). He was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Pontiac, MI. Growing up, he loved playing with his brothers, riding big wheels, board games, and writing. His favorite show as a child was the Friendly Giant, whose character was named Little Toot, which became a nickname for him growing up. He played baseball, with his family sharing he was a great pitcher (begrudgingly). He was an avid sports fanatic, especially baseball, which transcended decades for him, with collections of baseball cards and many attended games. He attended Baker Elementary, Muir Jr. High, and graduated in 1984 from Milford High School. Out of high school he joined the United States Navy, serving for about a year before a medical discharge. He spent a brief amount of time at Grand Valley State University before marrying his first wife, Christine, in 1989. Together they shared six children, Kayla, Jennifer, Clancy, Noah, Sean, and Riley. They shared 28 year of marriage together. Over those years, Michael attended numerous colleges to obtain his Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. The schools included Kirtland Community College, Spring Arbor University, and Oakland Community College. Being the forever learner he was, he always wished to continue to pursue his passion of nursing, adding a brief stint at Georgetown University as well. Michael valued working hard, and he never stopped in that. He spent nearly all of his adult years working and progressing through many roles for his employers, with his early years being spent in managerial roles in retail and food services. His truest passion came in 2005, where he began his path to being a nurse, which seemed to be the work he truthfully held a passion in. He especially loved working in home health nursing, being able to spend time meeting the unique needs of his clients and being able to help them through their health journeys. In some of his final years, he met the love of his life, whom he was able to share his remaining years with, Katherine (Kate/Katie) Anne Ingersoll, whom he married in February of 2022. They were a team together, working hard as nurses during the weekdays, but enjoying spending time with family, watching movies, traveling, and leading a life together full of memories till the very end. They had a love at first sight connection that truthfully guided them to being the best versions of themselves and spreading love and care wherever they were together. His loved ones will continue to cherish their memories of him including his tenacious and quirky personality. He held so many favorites in his life that were uniquely special to him, including baseball, Mexican food, Vernor’s, and playing card games sprinkled in competitiveness with hints of cheating. His collections of baseball cards, the Detroit big four in Sports (Lions, Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings), love of the state of Florida, his knowledge of music and movies, and that deep favoritism towards bands like KISS, The Police, Queen, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, and The Beatles that all have enveloped the minds of everyone that he has held special time with. Michael is survived by his loving wife Katherine (Kate) Ingersoll of Fife Lake, MI, his children Clancy Condron (Justin) of Midland, MI, Noah Carter (Riley) and Sean Carter of Roscommon, MI, and Riley Carter currently of East Lansing, MI as well as his four grandbabies Todd and Scarlett Condron (Clancy/Justin) and Millie and Theodore Carter (Noah/Riley), his parents Michael Sr. And Linda Carter of Higgins Lake, MI, brothers Marc Carter of South Lyon, MI and Matthew Carter (Lisa) of Grand Blanc, MI, his previous wife and mother of his children Christine and many nephews, aunts, uncles, family and friends. He is predeceased by his daughters Kayla and Jennifer, his grandparents James and Alice Clancy and John and Florence Carter and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service is currently being planned for late 2026 and information will be forthcoming from his wife and children. In lieu of flowers, please honor his deep love of sports and baseball and place a donation towards your local Little League, Sports Boosters, or any other entity that supports youth enjoying athletics. Lastly, Go Green, Go Tigers, and Rock On! Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
