Kenneth Leroy Stoddard

Kenneth Leroy Stoddard, 77, of Rapid City, Michigan was called home on September 30th, 2022. Ken was born in 1945 in Kalkaska County, Michigan, as the youngest of 6 children to Juanita and Orson Hilmer Stoddard. Ken was a veteran of the United States Army and spent most of his service time in Germany where he served his country proudly supporting command staff stationed there. In his younger years, Ken was the local volunteer fire chief where he served the community's needs day and night. He faithfully worked a lengthy career at Chef Pierre/Sara Lee Corporation meeting many of his longtime friends where he retired proudly after 32 years. A true Michigan man, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, tinkering in the garage and programming scanners to keep an ear for what was happening around the area. Ken took pleasure in cooking for a big family, even if only a few members showed up as he never wanted anyone to go hungry. A principled man, he believed a man's word meant something. Kenny was a formidable comedian, always trying to elicit a laugh or a smile. He loved his dogs as they loved him in return enjoying his retirement. We know Ken is celebrating with his loved ones in Heaven and still listening to Bob Seger songs shuffle in the background. Ken is survived by his loving wife Dawn (Miller) Stoddard of Rapid City, sons Brad (Jennifer) Stoddard of Dewitt, MI, and Kevin (Kelley) Stoddard of St. Johns, FL, daughter Kendra (Richard) Harris of Jacksonville, FL. Ken is also survived by his grandchildren: Jared Harris, Paige Stoddard, Victoria Stoddard, Cole Stoddard, Jade Harris, Ryan Stoddard, and Aiden Harris. Ken is also survived by his sisters Phyllis Stoddard of Kalkaska, MI, and Kay (Richard) Gabler of Rapid City, MI. as well as many beloved in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of friends. He will be missed. He was preceded in death by his father, Orson Hilmer Stoddard, mother, Juanita Stoddard, brother, Charles (Chuck) Stoddard, sisters Maryann Glick, Sally Robinson and a spouse, Harriet Guy. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8th from 12-4 at Kalkaska Funeral Home with military honors performed at 2 pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
