Jeffrey Weatherwax

Jeffrey Mark Weatherwax, 57, of Kalkaska, passed away at home surrounded by family on January 13, 2021. He was born in Imlay City, Michigan on November 2, 1963. Jeff grew up in St. Johns, Michigan and moved to Kalkaska in high School where he met the love of his life, Renea. They married in 1985 in Kalkaska and soon their son Christopher was born in 1986. Jeff worked in the oilfield after high school, but soon moved the family to Sarasota, Florida where he managed a truck and auto customization shop. They moved to St. Johns, Michigan in 1988 where they raised their family and he worked in construction. Their daughter Rachel was born in 1994. They moved “home” in 2006 to the Torch Lake area to be where they found the most joy. Jeff had a great love for the outdoors - deer hunting, fishing, skiing and most of all family time on Torch Lake in his boat. He was a great water skier and loved teaching kids to ski and shaking them off tubes. Jeff was a good, kind man who was always helping others. Jeffrey will be lovingly remembered by his wife Renea L. Weatherwax, Son Christopher Mark Weatherwax (Colleen), daughter Rachel Lynn Weatherwax (Alex Bethke), grandson Hudson Mark Weatherwax, father Harvey G. Weatherwax, mother Margaret Anderson, siblings: Alan (Paula) Weatherwax, Linda (Jim) VanAmburg, Karen (Jim) Willems, Tim (MariJo) Weatherwax, Mike Weatherwax, many nieces, nephews and the Weatherwax’s “Chosen Family” the Chappel Family and Randy Catlin. He was preceded in death by nephew Aaron Weatherwax, paternal grandparents and maternal grandparents, stepmother Delores Weatherwax, mother-in-law Sandra King, father-in-law Charles W. King, and aunt Helen Sierminski. Due to Covid a small family viewing was held with cremation following. The family is planning a late summer party to celebrate Jeff’s life. Details will follow and all will be welcome. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Cowell Family Cancer Center and Hospice of Grayling for their kindness and care. Donations can be made in Jeff’s name to The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN) or Cowell Family Cancer Center in Traverse City, Michigan. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
