Geraldine Lois Horton

Geraldine “Geri” Lois (Morningstar) Horton passed away in her son’s (Dennis Horton) home in Excelsior Township, Kalkaska, Michigan Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the age of 98. Daughter of Chester and Lucy O. (Duncan) Morningstar. Born April 5, 1927, in Flint, Michigan. Was married in Flint, Michigan on January 20, 1945, to Wayne W. Horton. Wayne was from Caseville, Michigan, son of Floyd W. and Iva H. (Harder) Horton. Wayne passed away, October 30, 2011, at the age of 86. Geraldine worked at a drug store while in high school. After marriage, Geraldine and Wayne lived in Chicago while Wayne was going to Coyne Trade School. After completing Trade School they moved to Caseville, Michigan. Then they moved a few more times as the years went by all in Michigan: Crystal Lake, Utica, Onaway, and Kalkaska. Geraldine was a housewife, mother, and did the books for her husband’s electrical business (Wayne’s Electric). Geraldine was also a waitress in Onaway for a short time. Geraldine was an active member, and a Priest of the Community of Christ Church (RLDS). In later years she would go to Cherry Street School and listen the young kids read in Kathy Wollam’s Class. Geraldine was part of the Volunteer North Country Hospice Program here in Kalkaska. At the age of 93 she moved into her son’s house in 2020. She enjoyed going out to eat on Friday nights and stopping down to the neighbors to visit. She especially loved hearing the local guys play music (Pat, Stoney, Sam and Tim). Geraldine also enjoyed Detroit Sports: Lions, Tigers and the Red Wings. Of course she loved her pontoon boat rides with Daisy Mae. Geraldine is survived by her two sons Dennis Horton and Daryl Horton (Sarah {Blech} Horton). Three grandchildren (Dennis and Flora’s children) Dusty (Horton) Seifert (John Seifert), Brad Horton (Lori {Lewis} Horton), Thad Horton (Kari {Breeden} Horton). Eight great-grandchildren (Dusty and John’s children) Alicia Seifert, Matthew Seifert (Rosanna “Rose” {Hank} Seifert), (Brad and Lori’s children) Andrew Horton, Caden Horton, (Thad and Kari’s children) Gwendolyn “Gwen” Horton, Davyn Horton, William “Liam” Horton, Alexander “Zander” Horton. One great-great-grandchild (Gwen’s) Charles Horton. brothers Chester Morningstar and Anthony “Tony” (Deanna {Walker} Morningstar); sisters Catherine (Morningstar) Bacon, Marlene (Morningstar) Long (Les Long) and lots of extended family. Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Horton, her parents Chester and Lucy (Duncan) Morningstar, sisters Doris (Morningstar) Brooks, Evelyn (Morningstar) Hozwarth, brother Robert Morningstar, brothers-in-law Doug Brooks, Clayton Hozwarth, Eugene Bacon, Mervyn Horton, sisters-in-law Betty (Vance) Morningstar, Marion (Laforest) Horton. Visitation will take place from 11am-1pm on Monday, May 12, 2025 at Kalkaska Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1:00pm on Monday, May 12th in the Chapel of Kalkaska Funeral Home. A luncheon will follow. Burial will take place in Excelsior Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Community of Christ Church - Grayling, 1030 Glenn Rd, Grayling, MI 49738. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home.
