Gale Edward Gauld Sr.

Gale Edward Gauld Sr., 83, of Fife Lake, MI, peacefully passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family on October 5th, 2023. He was born June 1st, 1940, in Fife Lake, to the late Glade and Bernita (Hartzell) Gauld. Gale spent his early elementary years at the Maple Hill School house just a mile from his childhood home and later attended Fife Lake School. He worked many odd jobs alongside his father at a very young age. His work ethic and desire to take care of his family led to him enlisting in the U.S Army for four years before returning home to Fife Lake. He spent many of his years working pipeline and later worked as a heavy equipment operator building roads, dams, bridges, and marinas. He retired from the Operating Engineers Union 324. When Gale wasn’t working you could find him hunting, fishing, or in his shop woodworking. He had an immense love for being active in the outdoors. Although he was a native to Fife Lake, he enjoyed traveling out west, bringing home Elk, and going to the Western Design Conference. He spent many years teaching his children and grandchildren to love the land just as much as he did. Gale was always willing to share his knowledge and wisdom with those around him. Late in his life you could find him hunting for morels, pulling leaks, picking apples and berries and riding on his lawn mower. He enjoyed gardening, processing deer and a good cup of coffee beside those that he loved the most. Impossible to miss was his love for all things woodworking, whether it was the labor of cutting and preparing fuel wood, to carving beautiful wooden mantels, gun stocks, and headboards. Working with his hands and in his shop was one of his truest passions. Gale was a grand example of a kind, warm, and socially gifted soul. Gales caring spirit and generous heart could be felt by anyone he encountered. He had a special gift of not only seeing the good in people but bringing out the best in them as well. In the 83 years that Gale lived, he was so many things to so many people. He was a son, a brother, a hero, a husband, a father, a papa, an uncle, and a friend. Gale truly had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed by all of those he loved. Gale is survived by his loving wife, Carla Thayer-Gauld; his children Katrina Gauld, Gale Gauld II (Chris Sibole), Diandra Thayer (Scott Tinker), Alicia (Chadwick) Duran, and ZakeryJon DenBoer. His grandchildren, Jonathin (Samantha) Grzybowski, Gale Gauld III, Eli Thayer, Riley DenBoer, Lucas Thayer, Margaret Thayer-Duran, and Colton Duran; siblings, Anita Mongar, Alta “Jane” Rogers, Dale (Becky) Gauld, Roy (Nancy) Gauld, and Jerry Gauld (Janet Kotajarvi); and many beloved brother and sister in laws; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; and friends. Gale is preceded in death by his parents; Glade Gauld and Bernita (Hartzel) Gauld; as well as his brother-in-law Stanley Mongar. In lieu of flowers, Gale would love nothing more for those around him to go out and enjoy the beautiful outdoors, surrounded by family, making lasting memories as he did throughout his life. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, October 13, 2023 at the American Legion Post 463 in South Boardman. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home.
