Dorothy Ellen Sogge

Dorothy Ellen Sogge, 87, of Kingsley, departed this life peacefully on February 9, 2025 surrounded by family and friends. Dorothy was born on December 10, 1937 in Traverse City to the late Glenn and Mae Sogge. She grew up on The Sogge Farm in Long Lake. Dorothy was a graduate of Traverse City Central High School. She married Glen Yetter Jr. on June 21, 1956 and was married for 18 years. She later married Mark Dobson on September 20th, 1974 and was married for 12 years. Charles “Mickey” McNair was her final love of her lifetime until he passed away in 1988. She was the original owner of the Village Eatery in Kingsley where she was known for her homemade pies, her witty sense of humor, and her love for the small community. After several years in the restaurant business, she opened her heart to foster children to provide them with a safe and stable home. Later, she went on to work for Consumers Energy from where she would eventually retire so she could spend more time with her grandchildren and family. Dorothy stayed busy with all types of projects, there was little she couldn’t do. She enjoyed stained glass, sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafting, gardening and above all, sharing her knowledge with anyone who wanted to learn. Dorothy is survived by her children Kimberly (Dennis) Michaud, Mike Yetter, Larry (Kathy) Yetter, Trevor (Pam) Yetter, Jody (Carl) Woodcox, Nicole (Jamie) Mullin, Angela Dobson; her sister Sandy Sadler and sister-in-law Sheryl Sogge; 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; and her dog Scooter. Dorothy is predeceased by her sister Anna Blonshine, brother Larry Sogge, and grandchild Michael Woodcox. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held in the spring for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Dorothy to Habitat for Humanity of Michigan as we all need a safe place to call home. We are forever grateful to the caring staff at Area Agency on Aging, Maple Ridge Living Center in Manton and Munson Hospice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
