Bernice R. Pfau

Bernice R. Pfau, 86, of Kingsley passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024, at her home, surrounded by family. Bernice was born on December 11, 1937, in Kingsley to John Frank and Valeria Victoria (Rhode) Schmuckal. Bernice was married to John L. Pfau for 43 years. They were married on January 16, 1965, in Paw Paw, Michigan. Bernice worked at Burwood Products in Traverse City for 15 years, Kingsley Food Market for 10 years, and Dollar General in Kingsley for 7 years. She spent several years catering and could often be found in the kitchen at St. Mary’s of Hannah cooking for weddings. She and John owned and operated Pfau Excavating for 25 years. They sponsored many softball teams over the years and had a lot of trophies to show for it. Bernice was a character. No matter whom she interacted with, they both ended up in smiles and laughter. She had a love for birds, always making sure they were well cared for, feeding them 3 times a day year-round. She loved to have coffee at Northland Foods with her friends and loved watching WWE Wrestling on TV. Bernice enjoyed watching her bobble heads in her picture window in the living room. She was an avid card player, was very fond of sweets, and the occasional KFC chicken dinner. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Dolores Vanpelt, brothers John Jr. and Joe Schmuckal, her daughter Trina Schueller and husband John Pfau. Bernice is survived by her Daughter Pam (Glen) Roop, Sons Pat (Jan) Haines, Mike (Elizabeth) Pfau and son in law Mike Schueller; Grandchildren Casie (Ben) Summerfield, Jesie (David) Bott, Kristin (Freddy) Brown, Megan (Dennis) Soper, Connor Schueller, Carter Schueller, Zack Pfau, Brody Hurt, and Isabella Stover; Great grandchildren Gracie, Maya, Blaine, and Lucy Summerfield; Chase and Clare Bott; Justice and Hunter Brown; Emily Soper; Karliah Pfau; and Silas Newman; along with many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at St. Mary’s of Hannah on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 10-11AM, immediately followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM.
